Dromara CC Club League - Round 2
10 mile TT - Lurgan Road, Dromore  (map)

11 April 2013

Thursdsay 11 April was a day of wet weather with heavy rain showers throughout the day.  This meant an end to the snow but the weather made it feel like winter rather than spring.  The club league was set for a 10 mile time trial on the Lurgan Road outside Dromore.  The rain did hold off for the event and only came back on again when we were packing up to go home.  Naturally the turn out for participants was well down but there were lots of club members willing to support the trial through marshalling and timekeeping.

As this was the first 10 mile time trial of the year, this one would be used as a benchmark for the riders to see if they are improving their times over the year.  This is the first round where league points will be applied.  New for this season is the split point system for those riders who have time trial equipment versus those who have not.  Time trial equiqment is defined as having either an aero helmet, clip on bars or disk wheels.  This should result in more league points being awarded to riders.  We will see how this impacts on the overall league table.

Fastest on the night was Gavin Magowan setting a time of 24 minutes and 13 seconds.  Gavin had a range of time trial equipment on his bike but the second fastest rider was Anthony Quinn (25:13) who had none.  Anthony proved that the rider's fitness and strength could provide better results than TT equipment as he went faster than some of the club's biggest 'testers', John Clyde (25:31), Trevor Wright (25:47) and Tommy Downey (27:06).  In total there were 11 riders taking part, 9 from DCC and 2 guests.

This round was part 1 of 2 for the Saville Motor Home trophy.  Part 2 will be a return to the Lurgan Road on 27 June.

Well done to all the riders and many thanks to the timekeepers and marshals.
