Round 12
Road Race  - Drumaroad (6.03 mile circuit)

26 June 2008

Eighteen riders gathered for tonight's road race, the third of the season for Dromara Cycling Club and the twelve event in the club's 2008 calendar. The venue was the Drumaroad circuit (see map) and the weather was good, a little windy with nice bright sunshine to finish.  The race was handicapped as before with riders placed into starting groups.  Details of the time handicaps are given in the table below.   Trevor and Stephen P sorted out the timekeeping effortlessly.  Many thanks to them and all the marshalls.   We had a few new faces at this event and fair play to the them for giving road racing a go.  There was a slight mix up at the start when the scratch group allegedly followed Ronnie on the first lap, missed the first turn, took the next turn and effectively added 2 miles to their course!

Two juniors joined us tonight (Ross and Ryan) for their first time racing and, chaperoned by Deek and Davy R, they seemed to have enjoyed their evening.

* Course length was 24.12 miles but these 5 did 26.12 miles (2 mile detour !)
# = miles per hour (mph).  This is based on the actual time taken to complete the event once the handicaps have been removed.

Well done to Paul Smyth for getting maximum points (50).  As Ronnie and Davy took the long route, it was felt that it would be better to judge them on their average speed, given this they were awarded with points equilalent to second and sixth respectively.

Timekeepers: Trevor Annett and Stephen Phillips
Marshalls: Anne Maguire, John Ruddell (Ards CC), Darren and Sharon Weir, James Kilpin and Gavin Magowan.
