The Kinallen circuit was a new venue for the club having been put forward by club race secretary Nigel Sudlow (map). Thirty five riders showed up on a great warm summers evening. Trevor Annett, club secretary, had arranged the riders into five groups separated by time gaps. Among the groups were three junior riders who had to complete two laps of the hilly circuit with the other riders having to complete five laps. Also out tonight were three female riders, four guests from other clubs, as well as newcomer Brendan Duff who's canadian accent was easy to pick out of the group. Racing got underway around 7:15 with the groups staying together for the first lap. After that, the Skeagh Road climb started to spread out the riders and it was only the strongest who managed to stay with their original groups. After the second lap some riders decided that was enough for them. The scratch group, which had been almost 12 minutes behind the first group, started to catch and pass all the other groups. This 12 minute delay was not enough on the night as David McKnight had taken a 13 second lead over all riders in the third lap. Trevor Annett then decided to shorten the event to four laps which was not met with any complaints. David finished 49 seconds ahead of the chasing pack of Darren Weir, Stevie Baines, Ronnie Smyth., Damien McDonald and Paul Mawhirt. Zak Hanna won the 2 lap junior event. Zak and Christopher Weir are heading for the youth championships this weekend. Good luck to them both.

This circuit required a large amount of marshalls and the club wish to thank the 11 for giving up their time to ensure the safety of the riders. Next week we are back to the Ballynahinch - Hillsborough circuit for the second 16 mile time trial.
