16 mile individual time trial - Ballynahinch to Hillsborough (map)

On the first of the warm Thursday evenings this year, 43 cyclists gathered just outside Hillsborough for the first of the Dromara Cycling Club's 16 mile time trials along the Hillsborough to Ballynahinch road. The time taken to complete this event and the other 16 mile time trial due to be held in July, are combined with the overall winner receiving the Fine Food Distributors trophy. There were a few new faces at the event tonight with David Weir and Owen McManus giving time trialling a go and William McKinney helping to marshall the 'turn' at Lord Moira Park in Ballynahinch.
Fastest on the night was Ronnie Smyth who set a great time of 36 minutes and 57 seconds averaging approximately 25.4 mph. Next fastest was guest rider Aaron Baines (East Antrim) who finished in 37m 15s which was just over 20 seconds faster than David McKnight. Gavin Magowan set an excellent time of 38m 50s to finish 4th on the night with the club's race secretary Nigel Sudlow finishing 5th in a time of 39m 46s. Full results below. John McGuigan unfortunely suffered a broken spoke just after going through Annahilt and had to be rescued by Bob.
As is customary with our time trials we add on a time handicap to see who has improved their own individual performance. The time handicaps are based on the 10 mile distance so tonight's times were adjusted to take that into account. After the time hanicaps were added it was calculated that Massimo Manganaro made the biggest time gains and he gains the maximum of 40 points for this round. Next to make the biggest time gain was Ian Proctor, who gets 39 points, and Mary Hunter (38 points), Nigel Sudlow (37 points) and Trevor Wright (36 points).
