Dromara CC Club League - Round 13
Road Race - Annahilt triangle  (map)

21 June 2012

After having to cancel Round 12 of the club league due to a torrential downpour Round 13 was able to go ahead despite the thick cloud cover and light rain.  This round was a road race around the Annahilt triangle circuit and it took place on Thursday 21 June 2012.  Many thanks to the 15 volunteers who stood out in the drizzle to ensure that the 35 riders who took part were kept safe at the three corners and at the local shop.  The riders had to complete 3 laps of the 7 mile circuit with the finish on the Glebe Road near the garage.

There were 3 groups of riders out, called Group 3 (13 riders), Group 4 (12 riders) and Group 5 / Scratch who had 10 riders.  The time gaps between the groups was 3 minutes and 3½ minutes.

By the end of lap 1 Group 4 had closed down the gap to Group 3 from 3 minutes to 1 minute and 47 seconds and Group 5 had narrowed the 3½ minute gap to just over 2½ minutes.

By the end of lap 2 Group 3 and 4 had merged and Group 5 was now only 1 minute and 50 seconds behind.  In the end Group 5 never caught the Group 3/4 combo.  Winner on the night was Stephen Wallace who outsprinted Martin Winters (Banbridge CC) and fellow training partner Gary Bailie.  David Chambers and Matthew McKinstry (West Down Wheelers) were 4th and 5th respectively.  Group 5 was lead home by Gavin Magown who was 19th overall.  Thirty-three finished the race.

Well done to all riders and many thanks to the timekeepers and to the marshals.

Next Thursday night (28 June 2012) will be the 10 mile time trial on the Dundrum Road.  See website for details (www.dromaracc.co.uk).
