Dromara CC Club League - Round 4
10 mile individual time trial, Annahilt  (map)

19 April 2012

Round 4 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league took place in Annahilt with a circuit 10 mile time trial starting and finishing on the Ballynahinch Road.  Forty-five riders lined up beside the flower nursery on a dry evening with little wind.  First away was Martin Marner with the other riders setting off at 30 second intervals.  Martin was the first to the Ballycreen Road where he turned left and headed along the narrow, bumpy road to the Glebe Road near the Pheasant restaurant.  Here he turned left and headed into Annahilt village to the cross roads where he turned left again and headed down past the flower nursery and on out towards Ballynahinch for the finish line.

There was an error in the timesheets regarding the start times  which gave 13 riders the impression that they were going faster than they had thought.  This was spotted and retified after the event.  Fastest on the night was Gavin Magowan who completed his 'home' time trial in 23 minutes and 15 seconds.  This was also the 'home' event for Ronnie Smyth who finished just 12 seconds behind.  Rodney Stewart was 11 seconds behind Ronnie with Chris Magowan the only other rider to break 24 minutes.  Mary Hunter was the only female rider finishing in 28:04 with Zak Hanna the only junior and he finished in 28:54.

Well done to all riders and many thanks to the timekeepers and to the marshals for keeping the riders safe.  Next Thursday night sees the first of the road races which takes place on the Maze circuit.  See website for details (www.dromaracc.co.uk).
