Dromara CC Club League - Round 1
5 mile TT - Spa to Seaforde  (map)

4 April 2013

Round 1 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league was a 5 mile time trial which took place from Spa lake to Seaforde on 4 April 2013.  This was not the original venue for the first round but with the recent snow still lining the sides of the roads this circuit had the least amount of the white stuff to contend with.

It was a beautiful evening, cool but with bright sunlight and clear skies.  Twenty riders came along to stretch their legs and to see how much of their winter training (or lack of) has made to their form.  A significant amount of the regulars were away in Mallorca on a club cycling trip and topping up their tans.

Tonight's time trial started from the car park beside the lake and it was a one way trial which all riders enjoyed as in this direction there was more downhill than uphill.  First away was David Hawthorne with Paul Jess setting off one minute behind him and then the others all separated by one minute gaps.

Fastest on the night was Anthony Quinn who set a time of 11 minutes and 20 seconds which was 11 seconds faster than his closest rival Marcus Magowan.  Gareth Kirkwood showed off his winter training with an impressive 11:38 which was 5 seconds faster than Barry Kellett.  Paul Mawhirt was 5th fastest with Nathan Mullan 6th fastest of the Dromara riders.  This round had 6 guests from other clubs taking part and, of these, Fergus Rooney (Phoenix CC) was the only other rider to beat 12 minutes.

Well done to all the riders and many thanks to the timekeepers and marshals.
