Dromara CC Club League - Round 10
10 mile time trial, Dundrum line (map)

6 June 2013

A pleasant warm evening greeted the riders from Dromara Cycling Club on their Thursday evening club event which was held along the Dundrum Road just outside the village of Dromara.  This was round 10 of the league and was another 10 mile time trial.  The sunshine attracted 25 riders with the first away, Raymund Martin, the oldest competitor of the 25, heading off just after 7 pm.  The remaining riders set off in one minute gaps with Marcus Magowan going as the last rider (as usual).  Gary Bailie didn't get too far when his chain got stuck.  After spending several minutes fixing the problem he returned to the start to try again.

Fastest on the night was Gavin Magowan in a time of 24 minutes and 15 seconds.  His brother Chris was just 15 seconds slower than Gavin but, crucially, he was one second faster than Ronnie Smyth who Chris has not beaten to date.  These first three riders were all on specific time trial bikes and wearing the aero helmets.  Continuing his great run of form, Anthony Quinn managed to equal Ronnie's time but without the time trial equipment.

Conor Rice was pleased with his time of 25:33 as he finished 3 seconds faster than Neil Fitzsimons with Marcus finishing 10 seconds behind Neil.  Gary Gibson was the next fastest road bike rider on 26:26 with Gary Bailie second attempt time of 26:47 leaving him 9th fastest overall.

When the riders returned to the parking area Deek brought out the perfect beverage for a warm summer's evening.

Well done to all the riders.  A big thanks to the timekeeper and to marshals.
