Dromara CC Club League - Round 18
10 mile time trial - Dundrum line (map)

1 August 2013

Round 18 of Dromara Cycling Club’s league took place on Thursday 1 August 2013 and it was a return to the Dundrum Road in Dromara.   Twenty-three cyclists gathered  to complete the 10 mile time trial on the course which took the riders out to the Guinness Primary School to turn and then come back.  The weather on the night was dry with a strong headwind on the way out to the turn which was then enjoyed as a tail wind on the homeward leg of the course.

Kevin Walker for the first rider away just after 7 pm with the rest of the riders setting off at 30 seconds intervals.  We had one visitor this evening, Ralph Mullan, who was over in the country from England and we also had youth rider Gavin Marmion taking part in his first time trial.  Another youth rider and youngest on the night was Ben Wilson who completed the distance with his dad following behind him.  Matthew Armstrong and Zak Hanna made up the other two under 18s on the night as well as two female competitiors Alwynne Shannon and Bernie Monaghan.

Fastest on the night was Chris Magowan who finished in 23 minutes and 50 seconds which was a club record on this circuit.  Behind him was his brother Gavin in a time of 24:06.  Both the Magowan's were on time trial specific bicycles with aero helmets and aero bars.  The first rider without these additions was Anthony Quinn who finished in 24:42 with Nathan Mullan 4th and Barry Kellett 5th.
