Dromara CC Club League - Round 7
10 mile time trial - Downpatrick Road, Ballynahinch (map)

16 May 2013

Sunshine at last !!  It always seems to be sunny when we go to the Downpatrick Road just outside Ballynahinch.  This was Round 7 of Dromara Cycling Club's Thursday night league and the pleasant weather brought out more club members to participate or simply stop by.  Twenty eight took part in the 10 mile time trial.  The club wish to thank the landowner again for the use of the field for parking.  This was a rearranged event as originally there was meant to be a road race this week but with the increased traffic around the area for the Balmoral show the road race was swapped with Round 8's time trial.

First away was Paul Mawhirt with Anthony Quinn setting off one minute later then Martin Marner one minute after him.  The remaining riders were set off at one minute intervals until after rider 23 Lisa Millar when the gap was shortened to 30 seconds to help speed up the event.

Fastest on the night was Ronnie Smyth setting a time of 24 minutes and 23 seconds.  Again Anthony was his closest rival and this time Anthony was just 3 seconds slower which was a great achievement as Ronnie had time trial equipment and Anthony did not.  Neil Fitzsimons was third fastest on his time trial bike with Barry Kellett 4th on his road bike.  Trevor Wright, Conor Rice and Gareth Kirkwood were all on modfied bikes and they took 5th, 6th and 7th respectively.

Well done to all riders.  Many thanks to the timekeepers and to marshals.
