Once again Dromara CC are running this very popular annual orienteering event from Brennan's Service station, thanks to Connor McKibbin, proprietor.

This year the area used, along with the time will be cut, mainly to stay clear of the muddy lanes and to accommodate those with less fitness.

Punches and cards will be used rather than the clue sheets which as some of you found can get difficult to work with in damp conditions

ENTRY FORMS

DESCRIPTION

20 control sites of varying values (the greater the difficulty the higher the points) are positioned alongside bridleways, byways or forestry trails. Competitors identify these sites at the competition Event Centre on pre-printed maps, or by copying from master maps onto their own Ordnance Survey Map or from grid references .

1.5hrs will be allowed to visit as many sites as possible in order to maximise the points total, making route choice and navigational skills a high priority.

Where appropriate, competitors may approach the controls on foot.

Lateness of return incurs severe penalties (5 points per Min), so sensible pacing is an important consideration for most riders.

Control sites are identified by markers, each of which carries a unique punch, enabling competitors to punch the appropriate position on their score card to provide proof of visit.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined, in order of preference, by considering the values of the check points visited.

  1. the competitor(s) that has visited the most high scoring checkpoints (and returned within the time limit)
  2. the competitor(s) that has visited the most checkpoints (and returned within the time limit)
  3. the competitor who started earliest

Word has it that this will be the first of at least 4 such MTBO events, perhaps part of a league. The rest run after the end of the Cyclo Cross season late in January.
