TrailQuest December 30th 2006
Weather cold not have been more suitable with little wind and plenty of sunshine. The only moisture coming in the form of some very wet lanes, sometimes deeper than the axles!

A total of 84 made up the 31 teams setting out on the 3 1/2 hour TrailQuest from Brennan's service station near Seaforde.

This year for a first we decided to add a road event but unfortunately only two teams entered  with Banbridge CC  headed by Gerry Beggs the clear winners. I expect most roadies were put of with the thought of having to think being more used to following the herd and trying to look individual the odd time by giving a roar.

Unfortunately for team CCAR Shirley Park put the mech on her new bike into the spokes shortly after the start forcing her into retirement but the team went on to finish in a fantastic 4th

For others the track through Forde's Estate was made extra exciting with an unexpected arrival of the East Down Fox Hounds. From the feed back the huntsmen seemed bemused to say the least giving some of the cyclists verbal. Perhaps their unfriendly attitude might go some way to explain why their DOGS decided to follow the cyclists for an arrogance free day.

No bad feedback which was a relief although punctures as I thought proved a problem with one team of 2 getting 9!

Thanks to everyone for your support, proceeds from today along with other money raised throughout the year will be given to Shimna Valley House shortly.
