Dromara Cycling Club is a means to focus your
interest in cycling. The club has a wide range of membership interests;
we are broad church and pride ourselves on catering for all interests and
abilities. Club membership offers the opportunity to broaden your experience,
develop your confidence and learn new skills. Cycling is not just about
riding a bike, it is about the places, people and experiences riding a
bike lead you to. Here are a few things you can expect from Dromara Cycling
Club.
- Club membership offers you protection, not only will you be insured
through Cycling Ireland when you join, but you will have the opportunity
to take part in group rides. Riding your bike with others is the best
way to keep safer on today’s congested roads. The ‘club runs’ on a Saturday
and Sunday offer routes off the beaten track, away from traffic and explore
the more tranquil roads around South Down and the Kingdom of Mourne.
- Club membership is for everyone. Dromara Cycling club has a
membership stretching from 7 years old to nearly 70 years old. Cycling
is a hobby for life and we see the involvement and encouragement of our
younger members as key to the future success of the club. The club runs
a children’s Gymkhana annually and members have gained accredited training
in youth development. We have younger members competing in open races
and duathlon events alongside their mum or dad.
- Club membership is about people. Cycling
is as social as any other sporting activity. We hold family friendly
barbecues at the main club events during the season, and we have an end
of season celebration at Christmas. Club members organise tours in Europe
and training camps in Majorca annually and we meet regularly to jointly
plan events and activities. The club website and message board are widely recognised
as being one of the best and will keep you up-to-date on events and
news within the cycling community.
In sum club membership is what you make it.
You can join simply to get out once a week on a short leisure run, or you
can join in order to train for competition locally or internationally -
whatever your initial interest, club membership will open a door to so
much more. It will encourage you, develop your confidence and fitness
and offer you new experiences.

- Club membership offers you access to a world
of organised events. We have a ‘club night’ every Thursday evening
during the spring and summer. This offers a bit of healthy competition
with road races and time trials but that is only the start of it. The
club is a gateway to events such as cycle sportives throughout Ireland
and Europe, training and youth development through Cycling Ulster, open
racing and leagues. If you are looking to get a bit more organised around
your cycling, club membership will offer the chance to plan your cycling,
identifying new challenges and aims for each season.
- Club membership will get you on your bike. Most people when asked why
they ride a bike will identify fitness as a factor. As a club member you
will cycle more, you will enjoy your cycling more and you will get fitter.
Just being around other people with the same interests will allow you
to pick up ideas about how to train, what to eat, what equipment you
need or don't need.
To talk about different types of membership
and the different disciplines offered at Dromara Cycling Club talk to Club
Secretary Trevor Annett on 07714 382158 or drop him an email at trevor@dromaracc.co.uk.
We look forward to
seeing you out on the bike soon.
