Paul, club chairman is now
home from hospital after nearly 3 weeks and an operation to
insert metal supports to his spine. Good news is that although
experiencing pain and odd sensations he is on the mend.
For
those of you that don't know, Paul, , sustained
nasty back injuries after a fall from his mountain bike on
Sunday 17thOct.
The club wish Paul a speedy
recovery and back to good fitness before our trip to
Majorca in March.

| Rim Wear
- Willie finds out what happens when the rim wears
through.
On one of the weekly Thursday
evening towpath
runs a bang loud enough to rival any firework came form the back of Willies
bike. It turned out that the rim had worn through and with the
pressure half the sidewall had broken off. After some discussion
it was decided the best idea was to remove the tyre and attempt
the 8 miles back to Lisburn on the rim. |
 |
|
All went well for a couple of mile
until with a final big wobble and sudden height loss Willie veered
into the hedge as the wheel collapsed leaving Willie with a 2 mile carry before a lift arrived.
And to think when I was told the small groove round the brake
surface is a wear limit I laughed! |
| Looks like the
mountain bike is more popular within the club, at least for the
winter. Just the seven out on Sunday past but that is a good
improvement on recent road runs.
Thursday evenings are creating a
lot interest with 14 turning up to cover the 22 mile along the
towpath with the odd gravel climb thrown in. All
welcome, club member or not and due to the many route options
there something to suit all abilities. Leaving the Carpark on
the County Down side of the Lagan centre, Lisburn at 7pm sharp NOTE
Paul did not recieve his injuries on a club run. On these
Thursday runs we never attempt any rough terrain, just well
maintained paths. |
