Youth and females MTB training days
2012

Saturdays 4 & 11 February 2012

With the new off-road racing season just around the corner, Dromara cycling club's new mountain bike officer, Brian Wilson, organised two training days for the club's active youth and female members.  On Saturday 4 February 2012 the riders met up in a wooded area outside of Dromara to practice some off-road riding skills.  Sixteen young riders and six women came together on a very wet and windy day to brave the elements for two hours.  The youth were split into two groups with seven in the younger, less experienced group and nine in the older, more experienced group.  Brian took the older group supported by Derek Hanna while Stephen Kelly took the younger group supported by a number of parents.  Andrea Harrower took the ladies for an enjoyable spin taking in some challenging sections.  Afterwards the riders enjoyed some hot chocolate or coffee to warm up before heading home.

The following Saturday the riders met up again.  This time there were 21 young riders and 6 women (half of whom had not been there the previous week).  The young riders were again split into two groups with 14 in the younger group and 7 in the older group.  Thankfully the weather was much better than the week before and the riders enjoyed improving their skills among the trees.  After the two hour session the riders were able to enjoy a hot cuppa along with a snack.

Many thanks to Brian for pulling these together.  There are plans on having another session in late March.  Please keep an eye on the message boards for details.
