Mary wins time trial out in Mallorca

Report by Mary Hunter

I returned to Mallorca at the end of April to compete in the Tolo’s 6th    Annual  TT in Puerto Pollensa. Stuart Hall from Stuart Hall cycling company had secured my place for me. Not knowing what the field would be like I went to give it a rattle.

The TT was 23.9 miles out the coast road to Alcudia , right at the roundabout up the main road then right again along by the golf course.    There were around 40 in the line up and I was lucky to be of 9th, just before it got too hot. I knew things were going well when   I passed my minute man 1.9 mile into the raceand by the 10th mile everything was going to plan. On the 18th mile  I was faced with two steep wee ring climbs and then down to the home straight.

I didn’t know how well I had done until I went to the lunch and presentation. I was the fastest women with 58.58 and broke the course record for women and was in the top half of the table with the men.

Next stop for me…the Celtic Chrono. I have been selected to ride for Ulster, up against Julia Shaw, Siobhan Horgan, Ciara Horne and our very own Wendy Houvenhagel. I hope your free to come and support this only pre  Olympic event in Ulster.
