Winter Training on the Lagan Towpath
Lisburn Civic Centre

From October to the end of March, Dromara Cycling Club riders (and guests) meet for a spin down the Lagan Towpath from Lisburn to Belfast every Thursday evening.   The cycle incorporates both on and off road trails and is most suitable to MTB style bicycles.  Riders meet in the car park at Lisburn's Civic Centre (map) at 6:50 pm for 'push off' at 7 pm sharp.  The cycle normally lasts from 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the route taken and weather conditions.  This is excellent training for those wanting to keep up their fitness over the winter and for those who are getting ready for the new competitive cycling season ahead.

Essential Equipment
  • Helmet (of course !)
  • Lights - Front and Rear.
It is best to have the rechargeable front lights with a battery that will last at least 2.5 hours.  As it can be very dark along the path, your front lights should allow you 'to see' rather than just allow you to 'be seen'.
  • Mudguards
  • Water bottle
  • At least 2 tubes and tyre levers
  • Winter clothing
Recommended items would include Winter MTB shoes, skull cap, winter gloves (waterproof &/or windproof) and winter jacket.
