Trailquest League -
Round 2 - 2007
Brennan's Garage
29 December 2007

The second round of this years Trailquest Winter League, organised by Dromara Cycling Club, took place today out of Brennan's garage near Seaforde. After a night of wet weather and high winds which continued into the morning it was great to see thirty one teams incorporating 67 riders braving the elements.  'Sign on' was a bit of a muddle as the newly designed sign on sheets were still sitting beside a photocopier in a distant office !!  After this minor set back the event organisers, Ross and Martin, got the first group away at 10:30. With a 25 mile an hour wind still battering the portacabin, the teams all left within one minute of each other.

The markers for this round were spread as far north as Drumaness, west as far as Eleven Acres Wood, east beyond the Loughisland lake and south as far as Dundrum Coastal path.  The riders were given a map (on both sides of an A4 sheet) with 28 markers to find.  One of these markers had a warning against it informing the riders that the hedges down a particular lane had been recently cut.  Unfortunately in their rush, quite a few teams suffered punctures down this lane and one team, Phoenix Ruffians suffered 5 and called it a day (a horrible wet day!!).

The results of round two were:

Team "Ballyclare Wheelers" arrived home more than 30 minutes late and unfortunately lost all the 260 points that they had worked so hard to obtain.
The average number of markers reached was 14 with team "Who the fox is that" reaching a staggering 26 out of 28.  Team Purple made it to 22 markers but did not make it back in time and suffered a penalty which dropped 65 points from their total.

The questions this time round were more 'cut and dry' with just one marker causing a problem (it seems that someone may have been using the marker for target practice).  The answers to the questions at the markers were as follows:
