League Table

What is the UCX Series?
The UCX Series stands for the "Ulster Cyclo Cross" Series.  It is based on four rounds held in Ulster and the points from each round go towards a series league.  The four rounds are being held by four different cycle clubs who have signed up to the league format.

What is cyclo-cross?
Cyclo-cross is a form of bicycle racing which takes place during the autumn and winter months.  The races are based on completing laps of a short circuit across terrain including grass, gravel, tarmac, pavement etc. The races are ideal for those new to cycling as the courses do not tend to be too technical to ride and are based in traffic free locations.

How long do the races last?
Adult races tend to last between 45 minutes and one hour.  The junior races would last from 10 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the age category.

Who can enter?
The UCX is open to all riders in Ireland and there are no restrictions on the nationality of the winners in any category.  Males and females can take part from as young as 6 to as old as 60+.  Riders are free to take part in one, two, three or all four events.  The final points will be based on the best three out of four rounds.  [UPDATE: Due to the cancellation of Round 3, the final points will be based on the best 2 out of 3 rounds.]

What type of bicycle do I need?
The main cyclo-cross race at each event is only open to riders with cyclo-cross bicycles.  These bicycles are very similar to those used on the road with some modifications including off-road style tires and different brakes for use in muddy conditions.  Mountain-bikes can be used in the adult support races and for all junior races.

What is the points system?
The UCX points system is based on that used in the Supercross Cup in 2008 with points being awarded based on race placings.  The points  range from 30 points down to 1 with all riders who complete the course getting at least 1 point towards the overall league.

The course will be based in Ormeau Park in Belfast with parking in front of the Ozone Centre off the Ormeau Embankment.   Showers and changing available.  Hot soup and baps for afterwards.
The course of 1.4 mile has a good mixture of fast tarmac, grass, flowing single-track, slippery accents, and tight turns through the trees at this excellent city park. Many thanks to Belfast City Council for the use of this venue.
