Dromara CC Youth Development Coaching Scheme

Purpose of Scheme: Dromara CC is carrying on with the scheme of short-term support to youth members from all cycling disciplines to progress evidenced potential. Each year the club will offer an award to recommended riders from the Club Development Budget. The budget is typically £500 which will be split evenly between those who are nominated/recommended and meet the criteria. The coaching will be offered over an agreed time period.  All nominations must meet the outlined criteria and have parental/guardian consent to progress within the timescale outlined.

Criteria for selection of youth club members for external coaching/courses

  • Age 16 – 18 years.
  • Hold a valid Cycling Ireland race licence
  • Active participation in club league or club events for one season prior to application
  • Full agreement from Parent/Guardian (Cycling Ireland template form)
  • Technical ability
    • Recommended by senior club members during club runs/events/races or through nomination from advertising to Development Officer
    • Club Development Officer makes recommendation to committee for final decision
  • Attitude and commitment
    • Assessment and recommendation by senior club members during club runs/events/races or nomination through advertising
    • Senior club members make representation to Club Development Officer
    • Club Development Officer makes recommendation to committee for final decision
    • Attend meeting with Development Officer, Parent/Guardian and coach to agree plan and outcomes
    • Training plan adherence/attendance record signed and dated by coach at agreed time scales

Criteria for selection of external coaches to work with underage children

  • Member of Cycling Ireland
  • Access NI vetted
  • Provide coaching qualifications (at least level 1)
  • Demonstrate proven coaching experience
  • Attend meeting with Development Officer, Parent/Guardian and rider to agree plan including feedback
  • Abide by the Sport NI Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children’s Sport
  • Abide by Cycling Ireland’s Code of Practice & safeguarding for Young & Vulnerable Cyclists (link)

Review

Feedback assessment from Coach to Club Development Officer/parent/guardian. Dromara CC reserves the right to withdraw support from any recipient based on feedback. This scheme will be reviewed upon completion of coaching or budget-spend down and a decision made as to the future of the scheme.  Successful participants are expected to complete 250/500 word self-evaluation report detailing areas that the coaching sessions have helped improve them as a rider/person and areas for development.
