MTB NPS Round 6
Magheramorne Quarry
hosted by Team Madigan

Sunday 24 May 2009
Magheramorne Quarry, Co. Antrim

Team Madigan hosted the fifth round of the Irish Cross Country National Points Series mountain bike races on Sunday 24 May 2009 at their now established home venue of Magheramorne Quarry on the county Antrim coast. This was the third year that the club have used the venue and as in previous years they were blessed with great weather conditions. This venue is still under development consideration as a permanent outdoor pursuits venue for all types of off-road cycling, scuba diving etc. This years event attracted their biggest support from across the border which helped to swell the numbers competing in each of the race categories. The course itself was largely unchanged from last year with the combination of large stretches of stony expanses, tight, bumpy single track through the greenery, steep drops down the amassed earth and stones, a few short, sharp climbs and the infamous bomb hole. With the rain over the previous week there were a few large unavoidable puddles to ensure that both bike and rider needed a wash afterwards.  Sign on took place in the main hall of boat club house where a great spread of food was laid out afterwards (including some excellent pasta). Team Madigan were making a whole day of it by having a club barbecue after the racing.
